Synopsis: Have you ever gone just a little too far?

Lexie Banks has.

Yep. She just had mind-blowing sex with her stepbrother. In her defense, she was on the rebound, and it’s more of a my-dad-happened-to-marry-a-woman-with-a-super-hot-son situation. But still, he’s been her best friend and confidant for the better part of the last few years … and is so off limits. It’s a good thing she’s leaving in two days for a year abroad in Rome.

But even thousands of miles away, Lexie can’t seem to escape trouble. Raised Catholic, she goes to confession in hopes of alleviating some of her guilt … and maybe not burning in hell. Instead, she stumbles out of the confessional and right into Alessandro Moretti, a young and very easy-on-the-eyes deacon … only eight months away from becoming a priest. Lexie and Alessandro grow closer, and when Alessandro’s signals start changing despite his vow of celibacy, she doesn’t know what to think. She’s torn between falling in love with the man she shouldn’t want and the man she can’t have. And she isn’t sure how she can live with herself either way.

Review: 4.5 Stars - A Little Too Far by author Lisa Desrochers was an eagerly anticipated title for this reader and after the first couple pages I knew without a doubt that she delivered one heck of a story. It’s an emotional journey of one woman’s struggle as she tries to figure out who she is, what she wants and who she should love.

Lexie is hurting. Dealing with an ex right before leaving to study abroad when she does something she’s not sure how to handle. She’s always had a connection with her stepbrother. They've been more like best friends than step siblings. When one afternoon emotion takes over and they end up sleeping together! Neither knows how to be with each other after the fact, with an ocean between them it creates an even bigger divide emotionally. Confusion and trouble for these two from beginning to end!

What I loved the most about Lisa’s writing was how visual the whole book felt. The way she describes Rome, the sites, the art and buildings through Lexies’ eyes was exciting and stunning. I loved how I felt like I was right there with her as she experienced these sites for the first time. And while I loved this part of the book and I felt for Lexie time and time again, she’s the reason why I’m unable to give this book 5 stars. There was one part of the story that I wanted to yell at her, shake her, tell her to think and be smart. She seriously made me pretty angry once or twice.

That’s another reason to love everything about this title - I felt some serious emotions during my time reading which is another massive part of the overall novel that Lisa does exceptionally well in expressing.

As for the two men of the story – Trent and Alessandro… I would have LOVED to have had a sneak peek into their brains during this time we spend with Lexie. Oh to be a fly on the wall, to understand their thoughts… I would have loved it! We do learn more about Alessandro, who is just about to become a priest which is where the double taboo of the story comes in – a step brothers and an almost priest, wow. Each of these men changes her life for the better. They help mold her into the person she is and then on her way to the person she is meant to become. I had no idea who she would end up with and can’t say I was surprised when her final choice was made. You won’t get it out of me here what that choice was; you’ll have to read the book to find that out for yourself.

Oh and I can’t forget to mention that there are some scenes that are pretty scorching and might induce the need for some cold showers in some readers. I know I had to fan myself with the hotness that Lisa has written, talk about steamy and wow!

All in all I love that Lisa has jumped feet first into the “New Adult” category and that she’s writing such an amazing book with more coming in companion novels to this title. I loved how she made me feel like I was in Rome seeing the city through Lexie’s eyes. I loved the journey that Lisa takes us on and how it’s filled with choices and romance and that Lisa brings the heat! It was a fantastic read from beginning to end. I couldn’t turn the pages fast enough and once I started there was no stopping until I was finished. The story concludes with answers, yet leaves enough open for some characters for the next book and I am so excited to see what happens next for them. I can’t wait!

I highly recommend this title for everything amazing that it is from start to finish. Those who love “New Adult” will find this contemporary novel compelling, sexy and stunning!

About the author:

Lisa Desrochers lives in central California with her husband and two very busy daughters. There is never a time that she can be found without a book in her hand, and she adores stories that take her to new places, and then take her by surprise.

Look for her New Adult novel, A LITTLE TOO FAR , courtesy of HarperCollins Sept 2013, and the first companion, A LITTLE TOO MUCH , in Nov 2013. Also in stores is her YA PERSONAL DEMONS trilogy (Macmillan).
